Bost, Gibbons Earn Prestigious Academic All-America Honors

AUSTIN, Texas – Thanks to their outstanding performances on the field and in the classroom this fall, the College Sports Information Directors of America have named Lebanon Valley's Sammy Bost and Nate Gibbons CoSIDA Academic All-America. Bost was named to the women's soccer academic all-America first-team, while Gibbons earned inclusion on the men's soccer academic all-America third-team.

Bost and Gibbons are the 26th and 27th academic all-Americans in school history, respectively. Bost is the first LVC student-athlete to earn multiple academic all-America honors (softball, women's soccer) in the same calendar year since J.D. Byers '05 (men's basketball, men's golf) accomplished the feat in 2004. She is just the second Dutchman to accomplish the impressive feat.

Bost, a two-time academic all-America pick in 2016, and Gibbons join women's cross country and track & field's Kelsey Patrick and Olivia Jendrzejewski as LVC student-athletes to earn the prestigious honor this during the most recent calendar year. The five Dutchmen to earn academic all-America recognition in a single year is a school record.

Patrick, Jendrzejewski Named Academic All-America

Bost finished the season as LVC's leading scorer with 19 goals, including four game-winners, and was named to the MAC Commonwealth All-Conference First-Team for the third time in her career. She also added three assists to total 41 points on the year. Already the program's all-time leading scorer (65) and total points (148) leader, Bost ranked 15th in the nation with a 1.06 goals per game average. The team captain also ranked 20th in the country in total goals. She's also been stellar on the academic front and currently carries a 3.94 cumulative GPA as a member of LVC's highly-competitive physical therapy program.

Her most recent accolade is the latest in a long line of honors, including being named a CoSIDA Academic All-American in softball last spring. She earned a pair of CoSIDA Academic All-District nods in 2014 and 2015, as well as back-to-back CoSIDA Academic All-District nods as a softball player following the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Bost was twice named NSCAA All-Region in addition to earning three consecutive NFCA All-America accolades as a softball player. She was named MAC Academic All-Conference each of the last two seasons in both soccer and softball and is a two-time MAC Commonwealth First-Team All-Conference honoree.

Bost Earns Academic All-America Honors

Gibbons is having a breakout season of sorts for LVC, anchoring a defensive unit that has recorded nine shutout victories, surrendered just 15 goals on the season, and is allowing just .75 goals per outing. The junior is a driving force behind a group that ranks 16th in the country in team save percentage (.848) and 26th in team goals against average (.73). One of the College's prestigious Allwein Scholars, Gibbons carries an impressive 3.94 cumulative GPA as a physics major.

He was named to the MAC Commonwealth All-Conference Second-Team for his efforts this fall and was pegged a CoSIDA Academic All-District pick last month. Gibbons was named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll in 2015.

CoSIDA annually recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances both athletically and in the classroom. To be eligible for Academic All-American consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution, and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
