AUSTIN, Texas – Lebanon Valley's
Kelsey Patrick and
Olivia Jendrzejewski have been named Academic All-Americans by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), honoring their outstanding athletic and academic achievement during the most recent cross country and track & field campaigns.
Patrick was named to the academic all-America second-team, while Jendrzejewski earned third-team academic all-America honors. The pair became LVC's 24th and 25th student-athletes to earn academic All-America honors since 1998. They join softball's Sammy Bost as Flying Dutchmen to be recognized as CoSIDA Academic All-Americans during the 2015-16 athletic season.
CoSIDA's Academic All-America program recognizes outstanding student-athletes for a combination of athletic and academic achievement, voted on by the nation's sports information directors. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors with GPAs of 3.3 or above are eligible for nomination.
For Patrick, it is her third consecutive academic All-America honor after being named a second-team selection last year and a third-team pick in 2014. A four-time All-MAC Women's Cross Country First-Team honoree, the senior won the 2012 and 2013 MAC individual titles en route to earning back-to-back MAC Runner of the Year honors after being named the 2012 MAC Rookie of the Year. Patrick is a four-time NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship qualifier and was named the 2013 USTFCCCA Mideast Region Runner of the Year.
Also a distance runner for LVC's women's track & field team, Patrick is a recently graduated health science major who will continue her education as a member of the school's physical therapy program. She earned a 3.81 cumulative GPA and was named the MAC Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year. An Academic All-MAC honoree for the third-straight year, she is a three-time Fall MAC Academic Honor Roll recipient, a four-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree, and a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree.
During her senior cross country campaign alone, Patrick broke her own course record en route to winning the 2015 Dutchmen Invitational. She also won the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble and was the top non-Division I runner at Penn State's Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational. She was named the USTFCCCA Division III National Athlete of the Week in early September in addition to being named the MAC Runner of the Week four times, and twice earning ECAC Runner of the Week honors.
Her strong efforts continued during indoor track & field competition. Patrick won a pair of MAC Championships in the 3,000 and 5,000 meter runs en route to earning all-conference first-team recognition in both events. During outdoor season, the distance runner picked up first-team all-conference honors when she won silver as a member of LVC's 4x800 meter relay team. She added second-team all-conference accolades in the 5,000m.
For Jendrzejewski, it is her first CoSIDA Academic All-America honor. The NCAA Indoor Track & Field High Jump National Runner-Up became the first jumper in program history to earn USTFCCCA All-America honors in both indoor and outdoor competition. The junior finished just .03 meters shy of the national championship-winning indoor high jump mark before finishing fifth in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in May.
Following her stellar indoor season, Jendrzejewski was named the USTFCCCA Mideast Region Field Athlete of the Year after earning USTFCCCA All-Region honors in all three jump events.
This winter, she set program records in the high, triple, and long jump events and won the ECAC High Jump Title. In February, she won a pair of MAC Championships in the high and triple jump events en route to being named the MAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. She was a three-time ECAC Field Athlete of the Week and earned two MAC Field Athlete of the Week awards.
Her outstanding campaign carried over into outdoor competition as she was named USTFCCCA All-Region in all three jump events and was crowned the MAC Outdoor Women's Field Athlete of the Year after winning conference championships in both the high and triple jump events. She added a bronze medal in the 100m hurdles and picked up all-conference first-team honors in all three jump events. She earned MAC Field Athlete of the Week honors earlier this spring.
Jendrzejewski was also recognized for her effort in the classroom during the 2015-16 academic year as the health science/physical therapy major was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection after carrying a 3.44 cumulative GPA. She also earned a spot on the MAC Academic Honor Roll as both an indoor and outdoor athlete to go along with her pair of MAC Academic All-Conference awards.
