Lebanon Valley College is proud to be the host site for the 2013 Commonwealth Conference Softball Championship Tournament on May 3-5. For the eighth time since opening in 1999, the LVC Softball Park will be the host field for the five-team double-elimination tournament to crown the CC's champion and automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.

Player to Watch: CC Pitcher of the Year Sam Derr leads LVC batting .400 and slugging .608; in the circle, she's 19-4 with a 1.17 ERA this season.

Noting the Dutchmen: Lebanon Valley earned the Commonwealth Conference's top seed with a 17-1 conference record, splitting only with Alvernia this season ... The Dutchmen are ranked third in the East region, and received 16 votes as the first team out of last week's NFCA Top 25 poll ... LVC went 7-1 against tournament qualifiers this year ... Junior CC Pitcher of the Year Sam Derr has led the team at the plate and in the circle, slugging .608 with 17 extra-base hits ... Junior 1B Allie Hartman, a first-team all-CC pick, has reached base in half of her plate appearances, hitting .370 with 26 walks, which ranks among the best in the nation ... Sisters Katie and Tessa Deardorff, both all-CC selections, are hitting .351 and .354, respectively, and have combined to steal 41 bases ... DP Steff Secola is slugging .536, including a team-best four home runs, to earn first-team all-CC ... In the circle, LVC is the conference's top pitching team with a staff ERA of 1.59 ... Derr has been outstanding with a CC-best 1.17 ERA and 19-4 record in 22 starts ... Freshman Haley Neff has been equally tough, sporting an undefeated 9-0 record and a 1.75 ERA to earn honorable mention all-CC honors.

Player to Watch: Amanda Galanti is the CC's top slugger, hitting .492 with a .643 slugging percentage.

Noting the Crusaders: The defending Commonwealth Champion Crusaders enter the playoffs as the #2 seed with a 16-2 conference record, their only blemishes a loss to top-seeded LVC and a nine-inning loss to third-seeded Messiah ... They have been paced on offense by junior C Amanda Galanti, who leads the conference with her .492 batting average, 62 hits and 48 RBIs ... Fellow junior Sam Penk leads Alvernia with four homeruns and seven triples ... Speedy senior CF Miranda Peto has been a sparkplug in the leadoff spot with 11 doubles and 35 RBIs ... Freshmen Rachel Fritz and Aly Shilling have made an impact on the left side of the field playing LF and 3B respectively ... Fritz is batting .358 and Shilling is not far behind, batting .342 ... In the circle, Alvernia’s team ERA is a tidy 1.98 with senior Deanna Dungee posting an impressive 1.61 ERA through 122 innings ... The Crusaders lead the conference in batting average, OB%, runs, hits, doubles, triples and homeruns ... Alvernia is currently ranked fourth in the NCAA East Region and has received votes in the NFCA National Poll this season.

Player to Watch: CC Player of the Year Stephanie Schell is slugging .616, including 16 doubles while hitting .420.

Noting the Falcons: Messiah enters the Commonwealth Conference Championship for the seventh-straight season ... Last year the Falcons saw their three-year run as conference champions come to an end at the hands of Alvernia ... Despite the defeat last season, Messiah advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the eighth time in program history ... The last time the Falcons won the conference was in 2011 when they finished 39-7 and advanced to the NCAA Division III World Series ... The Falcons are led offensively by freshman Becky Notte with 51 hits, 38 RBIs, and .447 batting average ... Senior CC Player of the Year Stephanie Schell is batting a .410 with 43 hits, 16 doubles, and 23 runs scored ... Freshman Katie Souders is batting a .368 with 31 RBIs and five home runs ... Mallory Rutledge and Claressa Mees have combined for a 20-8 record from the circle and 106 strikeouts ... Rutledge holds a 2.47 ERA and six complete games ... Mees has a 3.21 ERA and eight complete games ... Opponents are hitting .271 against Messiah pitching.

Player to Watch: Freshman Ashley Fourcade was the CC rookie of the year, slugging .600 this season to lead Hood.

Noting the Blazers: After winning just eight games a year ago and chosen to finish last by the Commonwealth head coaches, Hood has won 22 games, including eight walk-offs, to earn the #4 seed ... Hood, a first-year member of the CC, is 15-14 all-time in conference tournament contests (AWCC and CAC) and seeks its first conference crown since winning the AWCC in 2007 ... Hood set its single-season record for home runs with 18 and has four players hitting .350 or better ... Freshman Ashley Fourcade had a 19-game hitting streak earlier this year ... Fourcade leads the team in doubles (14), slugging percentage (.600) and RBI (34) ... Casey Dunn, as Hood’s leadoff hitter, is the team leader in runs scored (27) and triples (3) and ranks second in base hits (47) ... Junior RF Amy Hagerdon is one of Hood’s hottest hitters coming into the playoffs, going 10-for-20 in her last six games, all against league foes, to move into the top spot in base hits (49) and batting average (.392) ... Hood also has two of the top pitchers in the conference in freshman Keerstie Robinson and junior Jennifer Rutherford ... Robinson (14-10, 8-6 CC) has set single-season school records for innings pitched (158.1) and complete games (23) while Rutherford (8-5, 2-2 CC) won her first seven decisions of 2013.

Players to Watch: Tiffany Kahl (.350) and Kristin Mueller (.345) have combined for 46 of Stevenson's RBI this season.

Noting the Mustangs: Stevenson is making its ninth-straight appearance in a conference championship tournament but first as a member of the CC ... Stevenson advanced to the semifinals at the 2012, 2010 and 2008 CAC Softball Championship ... The Mustangs are 2-6 against the other four teams in this year's championship, including 0-2 vs. Lebanon Valley, 0-2 vs. Alvernia, 1-1 vs. Messiah and 1-1 vs. Hood ... A win in the conference tournament would give Stevenson its third 20-win season in the last four years ... The school record for wins is 23 set in 2010 ... Freshman Molly Hoyt leads Stevenson with a .376 batting average this season, including .433 with 13 hits, five RBIs and five runs over her last nine games where the team is 6-3 ... Hoyt leads the team with a 7-2 record and a 2.07 ERA in 16 appearances this season while totaling 34 strikeouts over 71.0 innings pitched ... Sophomore Brianna Pichalski has had the best success against conference competition this season, posting a 4-4 record in nine starts with a 1.96 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 60.2 innings pitched ... A trio of freshmen have proven to be the top offensive threats for the Mustangs this season ... Hoyt, Tiffany Kahl and Kristen Mueller have combined for 115 hits, 52 runs and 60 RBIs while posting a .353 batting average ... Kahl and Mueller are tied for the team lead with 23 RBIs and are two of only three players who have appeared in all 38 of the team's games this season ... Not to be overlooked is sophomore Stephanie Ayres who was an All-Capital Athletic Conference Second Team selection a year ago who is fourth on the team with a .318 batting average, 35 hits and 11 RBIs.
