Team IMPACT's Romero-Cabrera Joins MLAX

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's men's lacrosse team added a new player to its roster over the weekend when the Flying Dutchmen picked up 15-year old Freddy Romero-Cabrera from nearby Lebanon, Pa.

Romero-Cabrera suffers from Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy but with the help of Boston-based Team IMPACT, a national nonprofit that connects children facing serious and chronic illnesses with collegiate athletic teams to help create life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes, he remains involved in the things he enjoys.

Romero-Cabrera and his family moved to the United States from the Dominican Republic in 2011. He has earned a reputation for his quick wit and ability to light up a room with his smile. He is very social and enjoys playing video games and going to the movies and his favorite foods include pizza, pasta, burgers, and tacos.

Prior to Saturday's men's lacrosse game against Widener at Arnold Field, the Dutchmen joined Romero-Cabrera at the Hall of Champions in the Arnold Sports Center for his official signing. Head coach John Haus, his assistants, LVC team captains, and the rest of the team met with Romero-Cabrera and posed for photos together following the signing.

Romero-Cabrera also joined LVC on the sideline during the contest and met with players and coaches prior to the afternoon's Senior Day activities and the matchup against the Pride. FOX 43 was also in attendance to capture the story. Video from the event can be seen at this link.

Since 2011, Team IMPACT has matched more than 1,400 children with more than 500 colleges and universities in 47 states, reaching over 50,000 participating student-athletes. The child joins the athletic team and the student-athletes join the child's support team. Throughout the journey, the child gains strength, camaraderie and support while the student-athletes experience lessons of courage, resiliency and perspective they can't learn in a classroom.
