ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley scored a pair of goals in each half as it cruised past Gwynedd Mercy, 4-0, in their home opener at Herbert Field.
The Dutchmen (2-2) controlled the game from the start, outshooting the Griffins (0-3) 22-12 and taking a 2-0 lead after only 15 minutes.
Kevin Doty opened the scoring in the ninth minute, and
Gabe Stasyszyn,
Ian McGinnis, and
Tyler Skye added goals while three goalkeepers, led by starter
Kyle Miller, combined for a six-save shut out.
The opener was started by a terrific pass from
Jake Herron to Skye, who crossed left to a camping Doty for a top-shelf finish. Stasyszyn collected a rebound and scored on a blast from the top of the box in the 16th minute, and later thumped a header that was called back due to offsides.
McGinnis scored on a superb run into the box in the 66th minute, and Skye, who had been a threat all game with four shots, deservedly got his first career goal on the scoresheet with 18 seconds remaining when
Brian Lowe send a long cross to the box for the finish.
Miller made five saves in 71:53 of action, and
Matt Blanke (no saves, 7:49) and
Brad Wood (1 save, 10:18) relieved him. Matt Chilcote started and made two stops for GMC, with Ryan Oyola also making two and allowing two in 26:32 of play.
LVC will stay at home to host Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
