MAC Hall of Fame Class of 2013
ANNVILLE, Pa. - LVC basketball greats George "Rinso" Marquette '48 and Mike Rhoades '95 have been elected to the 2013 class of the Middle Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame.
The pair join 2012 honoree Lou Sorrentino '54 in the hall; Sorrentino was LVC's first inductee for the inaugural class last year. The hall of fame was established to honor the MAC's 100th anniversary in 2012-13.
Marquette is one of the legendary names in LVC athletics history, serving as the men's basketball head coach from 1952-60 and remaining as a college administrator for several decades after that. Marquette won 101 games during his tenure, ranking second all-time, and is best remembered for leading LVC to the 1953 NCAA Sweet 16, upsetting Fordham to get there. To this day, LVC is the smallest school to ever reach the Sweet 16. After coaching, Marquette served as dean of men at LVC, and is honored on campus with a residence hall in his name as well as the annual Rinso Marquette Tournament hosted by the men's and women's basketball programs.
Rhoades was the 1995 USA Today National Player of the Year and a two-time all-American, leading Lebanon Valley to the 1994 NCAA Division III national championship. He graduated as LVC's all-time leading scorer with 2,050 points, and remains one of only two Dutchmen to surpass the 2,000-point milestone. He continues to hold records for career free-throw percentage (84.5%), assists (668), and steals (212). Rhoades is currently the associate head coach at Virginia Commonwealth, where he has helped turn the Rams into a perennial NCAA qualifier including a Final Four appearance.
