Men’s Soccer Works 1-1 Tie with Stevenson

Box Score Men's Soccer
Lebanon Valley College 1, Stevenson University 1 (2OT)

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Lebanon Valley men's soccer team converted on a Stevenson miscue to salvage a 1-1 tie with the Mustangs on Wednesday evening.

After back-and-forth play throughout the opening minutes, Stevenson opened the scoring in the 33rd minute as Zachary Martin slotted a shot in the far side past LVC senior goalkeeper James Clements for the 1-0 lead.

Stevenson held that lead into the halftime break and for 25 minutes into the second stanza until a miscue opened the door for the Dutchmen. Mustangs goalkeeper Pat Carey misplayed a kick and senior Matt Henly took advantage, finding the back of the net for his first goal of the year, tying the game at 1-1.

The defense took over from that point as neither team was able to notch a winner in two overtime sessions to force the 1-1 draw.

The game was extremely close from a statistical standpoint as the Valley held the slight edge in shots, 16-15 and Stevenson worked eight corners compared to six for LVC. Clements made seven saves on the night in goal.

The tie moves the Dutchmen to 6-5-3 on the year and 0-3-1 in Commonwealth Conference play. Next up is a matchup with Albright in Reading on Saturday at 8 p.m.
