Full Day 1 Results

WILKES-BARRE, Pa.
- Singles competitors Jon Gingrich and Brad Sweigart and the doubles team of Andrew Deckert and Joel Ramos are through to Sunday's semifinals after the first day of the 2010 Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Men's Tennis Championships.

The flighted tournament, which combined competitors from all the Commonwealth and Freedom Conference schools, has Gingrich through at No. 4 and Sweigart at No. 5, and the doubles tandem at No. 3.

Gingrich is the only unseeded competitor left in the No. 4 bracket after he beat Eastern's Tyler Hoagland in the first round 6-3, 6-4, and upset second-seed David Brown of Lycoming 2-6, 7-5, 10-8 in a comeback win in the quarterfinals. Gingrich had lost to Brown in straight sets during their regular-season meeting.

At No. 5, Sweigart, who had only one competitive match under his belt in 2010 after studying abroad for most of the spring semester, showed no rust as he beat Lycoming's Phillip Shannon 6-4, 6-0 in the first round and dispatched David Chen of King's 7-5, 6-3, in the quarterfinals.

At No. 3 doubles, Deckert and Ramos were seeded third and received a first-round bye before beating King's Nick Conte and Michael Steinberger 8-6 to move into the semifinals.
