Baseball Tops Gettysburg, 10-7

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Lebanon Valley baseball closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 10-7 victory over Gettysburg Tuesday afternoon at Kirchhoff Field. Senior Grant Wiest led the Dutchmen, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Freshman Kevin Greene also batted in three runs for LVC.

The Dutchmen struck first, recording two runs in the second inning. Wiest opened with a single and moved to second off a hit from sophomore Dustin Deibert. A sacrifice bunt from Aaron Mills advanced the runners and both scored on a single to center field by Greene.

Gettysburg responded in the bottom of the second, scoring a run off a fielder's choice. The Bullets evened the score at two in the fourth with a run scoring off a throwing error.

Lebanon Valley took a five run lead in the fifth inning. Sophomore Jordan Witmer started off with a double down the left field line and scored off a double to right from classmate Dylan Holland. A single from sophomore Ryan Schwartz sent Holland home and Wiest followed with a two-run single to center. Greene scored the fifth run of the inning with a double down the left field line.

The Dutchmen tacked on another run in the seventh with a ground out from Deibert sending Wiest across home plate.

Gettysburg fought back in the eighth, scoring five runs to cut LVC's lead to one run. Three singles scored a run each, while one runner stole home and an error scored another.

LVC pushed its lead to three runs in the ninth inning. Sophomore Jacob Rhody hit a double to left and scored off a double down the right field line from Wiest. A single from Mills sent another run home.

Junior Jake Becker started and recorded the win after pitching seven and two-thirds innings and striking out four. Sophomore Ian Younker pitched the final out of the eighth inning and Deibert took over for the ninth, striking out two.

The Dutchmen travel to Messiah Friday to open a three-game series, with a single game beginning at 3:30 p.m.
