PALMYRA, Pa. - Finally, lax is back at Lebanon Valley College.
In the program's first game since 1985, the LVC women's lacrosse team started off with a bang, winning their debut 18-7 against Lancaster Bible College at the In The Net complex in Palmyra.
Freshman
Hana Krechel scored the first goal in LVC modern history exactly five minutes into the game, and didn't stop there, scoring seven to lead an offensive barrage for the Dutchmen (1-0).
Krechel finished with seven goals, an assist, and eight draw controls, while sophomore
Rachel Murkey and freshman Rachel McGinniss both notched hat tricks as LVC bolted out to a 6-0 start and an 11-2 halftime lead.
Lauren Grande added a pair of scores, and
Amanda Cubbage,
Suzanne Sullivan, and
Jen Strack also tallied goals for LVC.
Kirsten Fuller scored four and Mercedes Collins had three to take care of the Chargers' (0-2) scoring.
Defensively, freshman goalkeeper
Erica Ameigh made nine saves, including two free-position stops, to pick up the win. Nicole Valinteno made 16 saves in the losing effort.
After a nervous start, LVC's offense settled in hit three goals in less than a minute to start. Krechel hit an unassisted shot five minutes in, and Grande converted a feed from
Kristin Clift seconds later for her first career goal. Krechel added another just 58 seconds after her first, and Sullivan converted LVC's first free-position goal two minutes later.
It was all Dutchmen from there as Murkey and McGinnis scored before Fuller stopped the LVC run, but three more quick goals gave LVC a 9-1 lead less than 20 minutes into the game.
LVC will debut at Arnold Field on Thursday, hosting Susquehanna for a 4 p.m. game.
