HERSHEY, Pa. - Fourth-ranked Elmira used strong special teams play to shutout Lebanon Valley, 5-0, on Friday night at Hersheypark Arena in an ECAC West match up. Freshman Matthew Turner started his ninth game of the season and made 34 saves in net for LVC.
Elmira found the scoresheet early with Rick Acorn scoring just 1:36 into the game. The Soaring Eagles added another before the end of the first period with a power play tally from Kevin Willer.
The Soaring Eagles posted three more goals in the second period, with Acorn adding another just over two minutes into the frame. Darcy Vaillancourt and Mark Morikawa also notched power play tallies for Elmira.
Turner and the Dutchmen held Elmira scoreless in the third, and recorded eight shots on goal in the third but were unable to find the back of the net.
The two teams will face off again Saturday at Hersheypark Arena with game time set for 3 p.m.
