ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley College has unveiled its 2009-10 men's basketball schedule as the Dutchmen look to make a return to the top of the Commonwealth Conference.
The slate will be highlighted by the 17th Annual Rinso Marquette Tournament on Nov. 21-22, a match-up with 2009 Final Four team Franklin & Marshall on Nov. 24, and a trip to New York University on Jan. 2 for the first rematch with NYU since the 1994 NCAA National Championship game.
The Dutchmen will open the season with five straight home games, starting with Moravian College on Sunday, Nov. 15 and Cabrini College on Nov. 18.
LVC will then host the Marquette Tournament on Nov. 21-22, with Randolph-Macon (with former LVC great
J.D. Byers '05 on its coaching staff), Rutgers-Newark, and Penn State Harrisburg participating.
The five-game homestand will conclude Nov. 24 as archrival and defending NCAA Final Four participant F&M visits Annville in the 144th meeting between the schools.
For the first time since 2006, Commonwealth Conference play will begin before the new year as LVC visits Lycoming on Dec. 2 before hosting their home CC opener against Arcadia on Dec. 5. The remaining 12 conference games - a home-and-home with all seven CC members - will pick up again Jan. 9 with new member Alvernia visiting the LVC Gymnasium.
The Dutchmen will head to the Big Apple on Jan. 2-3 to take part in the NYU Tournament, with games against Wentworth and NYU slated. Their game with the Violets will be the first since their dramatic NCAA Championship game appearance in 1994, which Lebanon Valley won, 66-59, in overtime.
Hot Dog Frank Day will take place on Feb. 13 against Albright at 2 p.m., with the traditional free hot dogs for all fans in honor of the late "Hot Dog" Frank Aftosmes, an Annville businessman and ardent supporter of LVC athletics.
