WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley College men's tennis team wrapped up the final day of the MASCAC Individual Championships, with several Dutchmen advancing to the semifinals on Sunday.
The Dutchmen, winners of the Commonwealth Conference team championship, were competing in their final tune-up before their NCAA Tournament match later this week; the team will find out who they play and where when the brackets are released Monday.
Tom Neckelmann,
Brad Sweigart,
Jon Gingrich, and
Andrew Levin all bowed out in the semifinals at their respective flights, while the No. 1 doubles team of Gingrich and
Jared Zeigler and the No. 3 duo of Neckelmann and Sweigart also lost in the semis.
At No. 3 singles, Neckelmann fell to eventual champion Michael Capozzi of Manhattanville, 6-1, 6-1, and Sweigart lost to another M'ville player at No. 4, Lance Dorfi, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 5, Gingrich played a marathon match with M'ville's Hugo Robinson but lost 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 10-9 (7-0). At No. 6, Levin lost to eventual champ Dean Tahir of Manhattanville, 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles, Gingrich and Zeigler fell against Capozzi and Imran Choudhury of M'ville, 8-3, and at No. 3, Neckelmann and Sweigart lost to champions Jeremy Nolt and Brian Fanelli of Wilkes, 8-1.
