WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Four individuals and two doubles teams are through to Sunday's semifinals as the Lebanon Valley men's tennis team competed on Day 1 of the MASCAC Individual Championships in Wilkes-Barre.
Tom Neckelmann beat Bryan Arnett of Eastern in a marathon 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 win to advance to the No. 3 singles semifinals, and
Brad Sweigart also needed a tiebreak to beat Messiah's Mike Elliott, 6-1, 4-6, 10-3, at No. 4 to secure his semifinal spot.
LVC's No. 5 and 6 men are also through, with
Jon Gingrich beating Misericordia's Matt Hopkins, 6-1, 6-2, in the quarters and
Andrew Levin beating Misericordia's Justin Muthler 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 at No. 6.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of Gingrich and
Jared Zeigler will play in the semis Sunday after beating Lycoming's Robert Brown and Alex Beattie, 9-7, and the No. 3 duo of Neckelmann and Sweigart beat Messiah's Adam Sheir and Andrew Wismer, 8-3, to move on.
At No. 1 singles,
Matt Grodzinski won his first-round match before falling 6-1, 6-2 to Wilkes' Jeremy Nolt in the quarters, and Zeigler lost to Messiah's Sam Shorts in the first round, 6-3, 6-2.
