SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Lebanon Valley College swim teams took a break from dual meet competition Saturday, swimming individual events at the Swarthmore College Invitational.
The Dutchmen, who only competed on the second day of competition in the 36-event format, turned in a sixth-place finish for the men with 150 points and a seventh-place showing for the women at 154 points. Host Swarthmore won the men's competition, while Division-I Drexel took the women's side.
LVC swimmers turned in eight top-10 finishes among large fields in many events.
John Heenan had two top-10 finishes for the men, as he was fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.89 and then sixth in the 200 breast in 2:27.77.
Tony Shipkowski added a 10th-place 2:24.45 in the 200-fly, which qualified him for MAC Championships in that event.
Ashten O'Brien was sixth in the 400 IM in 5:20.93, and
Kristen Zartman took eighth in the 200 free in 2:09.16 and 10th in the 200 back in 2:29.05, with the latter being a MAC-qualifying time.
Ally Birli was 10th in the 100-fly in 1:07.74, and
Charlie Robinson also snagged a 10th-place finish in the 100 free with a 59.25 time.
Kris Roaten also qualified for MACs in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events (18th-place 1:20.55 and 15th-place 2:54.57, respectively), and O'Brien added a qualifying time in the 200 breast with her 12th-place 2:49.26.
In relay action, LVC's 400-free relay of Birli,
Mary Gardner, Zartman, and Robinson was fifth in 4:04.27, while their men's counterparts (Shipkowski,
Ryan Humphries,
Johnny Schoenberger, and
Jeff Bush) came in sixth in 3:37.53.
LVC will break for finals and the holidays before returning to action Jan. 13 at Misericordia.
