2009 All-Commonwealth Conference Teams

ANNVILLE, Pa
. - Seven Dutchmen have been named all-Commonwealth Conference, and freshman Caitlin Vasey has been named the CC Field Hockey Rookie of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday.

Forward Shelly Lobach, midfielder Avery Carter, and backs Danielle Blase and Nikki Bomberger were first-team selections, while forward Jocelyn Novak, midfielder Jenni Walker, and goalkeeper Caitlin Baro earned second-team honors.

Vasey becomes the third Dutchman to earn ROY honors and first since Lobach in 2007.

Lobach, who was a second-teamer last year, became LVC's all-time assists leader this season and was the catalyst of LVC's offense, scoring 12 goals and dishing out a team-best 15 assists. The junior battled back from a mid-season injury and has 17 points in seven games since then.

Carter, a two-time second-team selection in 2007 and 2008, had four goals and seven assists out of the midfield. An integral part of LVC's corner unit, the senior was also a shut-down defender in the midfield transition.

Blase, second-teamer last year as a forward, made the move to back this year and was oustanding, helping LVC hold opponents to 1.19 goals per game while also scoring four of her own.

Bomberger, a two-time second-team pick in 2007 and 2008, also anchored the LVC defense while playing on point for LVC's corner unit, scoring six goals and handing out five assists. The senior was also picked to play in the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game later this month.

Novak, a first-teamer last year, is sixth in the nation in scoring as she tied her own program record with 32 goals this season. She became the fastest player in LVC history to 100 points, doing it as a sophomore, as she collected four hat tricks this season and is currently on a 14-game scoring streak.

Walker slotted into a starting role this year as a sophomore and became a key distributor for the Dutchmen, handing out 12 assists while scoring three goals out of the midfield.

Baro, a two-time first-team all-CC pick in 2007 and 2008, has an 18-3 record with six shutouts, and a 1.12 GAA this season. Along with Bomberger, she was picked to play in the NFHCA Senior All-Star game.

Vasey, LVC's third CC Rookie of the Year, enjoyed a fantastic debut after moving into the starting line-up in mid-season. She dished out 14 assists while scoring 13 goals, and tied an LVC record with four assists against Widener.

#7 LVC (18-3) will continue its season Saturday in the NCAA Second Round, taking on #8 Rowan at Messiah at 2 p.m.
