ANNVILLE, Pa. - Five Lebanon Valley College student-athletes have been honored by the Commonwealth Conference as Players of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
The honorees are:
Courtney Catania - Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Sophomore forward Courtney Catania had a goal and an assist in LVC's 5-0 win over Alvernia for the team's first CC win of 2009. Her goal and assist came over a nine-minute span in the first half to turn a 2-0 game into a 4-0 halftime advantage for the Dutchmen.
Jocelyn Novak - Field Hockey Player of the Week
Sophomore forward Jocelyn Novak became the fastest player in LVC history to reach 100 career points as she scored six goals in three games for #7 Lebanon Valley last week. Novak tallied twice against F&M on Monday, then scored the late gamewinner against Haverford on Wednesday and had her eighth career hat trick against Shenandoah on Saturday.
Caitlin Baro - Field Hockey Goalie/Defender of the Week
Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Baro went 3-0 in the cage for LVC last week, allowing just one goal in 175 minutes and making 13 saves. Baro shut out F&M on Monday with a six-save performance, then stopped five against Haverford on Wednesday. Baro also earned the win with a goalless half against Shenandoah on Saturday.
Angela Kuperavage - Volleyball Player of the Week
Sophomore libero Angela Kuperavage tied a program record for digs in a match with 33 in LVC's 3-2 win at Frostburg State on Saturday. She keyed a defense that rallied from an early 1-0 deficit and then again when LVC trailed 13-10 in the fifth set. This is the second time in her career Kuperavage has gone over 30 digs in a match - she is just one of two players in LVC history to do so.
Sarah Grodzinski - Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Senior Sarah Grodzinski, who repeats as Player of the Week, became the first LVC tennis player, male or female, to win 100 combined career matches as she went 4-0 at No. 1 singles and doubles last week. Her play helped LVC push its perfect start to 11-0 and clinch a Commonwealth Conference playoff berth with a 5-1 win over Arcadia. This year, Grodzinski is an undefeated 11-0 at singles and 10-0 in doubles.
